Accessibility

Last updated:

We want as many people as possible to be able to live a life in Umare. This page says what is in place today, what has not yet been verified, and what is missing. No external accessibility audit has been carried out to date, and we do not claim compliance with a standard (RGAA, WCAG).

What is in place

  • Text size. The app follows the text size chosen in iOS (Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Larger Text). A few very tight elements (short titles, large buttons) are capped at around ×1.3 so that one-word labels are not cut off; everything else follows your setting. Automated display tests check the main screens up to ×1.6 on screens 320 and 390 points wide.
  • Reduced motion. Decorative animations (particles, scene effects, globe) are switched off if you enable Reduce motion in Umare (Settings → Sound & motion) or in iOS (Settings → Accessibility → Motion → Reduce Motion).
  • Screen reader (VoiceOver). Buttons, switches, headings and important status areas have accessibility labels (several hundred in the code); status messages (purchase, loading) are announced. TO CHECK: a full playthrough of a life with a screen reader on a device has not been done yet; graphical screens (timeline, globe, pixel-art portraits) may be less well described.
  • Dark and light mode. The game is black by default; a light mode is available (Settings → Appearance). Emotion colors are chosen for a contrast of at least 3:1 on both black and white (tested). TO CHECK: the contrast of all secondary text has not been measured screen by screen.
  • Sound and haptics. Music, sound effects and haptics can be turned off separately (Settings → Sound & motion). The game's information is written; sounds add atmosphere but, to our knowledge, carry no essential information. The iPhone silent switch is respected.
  • Simple gestures. To our knowledge, no complex gestures and no timed actions: you tap a choice, read, continue. Most touch targets are at least 48 points. The game can be played one-handed, in portrait.
  • Languages. French, English, Japanese, selectable in Settings → Language.
  • No ads during a game.

What is missing or not verified

  • Voice Control, Switch Control and switch devices: not tested.
  • Text descriptions of illustrations and the globe for VoiceOver: partial.
  • iOS "Increase Contrast" mode: not specifically handled.
  • Captions: not applicable (no video or speech).
